Head Coach - Lyne de Montarnal

Hi my name is Lyne de Montarnal and I am the Head Coach for the Orcas Swim Club.

I am thrilled to have this opportunity to shape our simmers into stronger athletes!  I was a swimmer as a youth and it gave me more than just the ability to swim.  I want to share my passion for movement and swimming with the youth in our club.  My mission and vision are for swimmers to develop a love of swimming and a drive for competition in a positive environment, while building an appreciation for fitness that they can carry into adulthood.

I live on a farm with my husband and 3 children.  I love to be active, it's a part of my everyday life and I include swimming in my weekly fitness regime.  I hold many fitness certifications including personal trainer, group cycle instructor, group fitness instructor, glute specialist and I am a 200 hour registered yoga teach with Yoga Alliance.  I love all facets of fitness and have found that this has given me a very well rounded knowledge base, which will prove beneficial in training the swimmers.  This, along with my swim experience and swim coach training, will shape our young swimmers and guide them towards success.

Assistant Coach - Brian Hargreaves

Hi my name is Brian Hargreaves and I have the privilege of working as an Assistant Coach for the Orcas Swim Club, this is my third time with the team.

I originally moved from Selkirk, MB to the Battlefords in 1996 to take on role of Head Coach when my younger brother, Brad, stepped down to return to university.  I left the team at the end of the '96-97 season to begin my careen teaching which has taken me to various communities in Saskatchewan and allowed me to return to the team for a second stint as Head Coach in 2006.  I filled this role until 2012-13 season but decided to focus on my Masters degree in Educational Administration at the time and needed to step away from the club.  After volunteering at the Christmas camp in December of 2023, the swimming bug bit again and I was happy to accept the offer to return to the team as an assistant coach.  I am currently teaching as Vice Principal at an elementary school in North Battleford, with 28 years of teaching and administrative experience under my belt.

My family has always had strong ties to aquatics, whether it be my 2 brothers and I swimming for the Selkirk Dolphins in the '80's, competing in triathlons for our high school team and beyond in the '90's.  My wife Jodi was highly involved at the pool in North Battleford as a lifeguard/instructor, supervisor, and general manager of the CUPLex upon it's opening in 2012.  Both my children, now adults, have worked in aquatics and have competed in both synchronized swimming (my daughter Kaileigh) and with the Orcas (my son Spencer).  I am excited to return to the team and to work with an energetic an enthusiastic group of young swimmers agains.  I hope I can share some of my background, experience and expertise with them as we kick off the 2025'26 season.  GO ORCAS!!

Meet Coach Maria

Hello Orcas families! My name is Maria Hoven, and I’m excited to join the BKSC ORCAS coaching team this season. Swimming has been a lifelong passion of mine—I started at the age of 5 with a summer swim club in my hometown in Newfoundland and continued through until the age of 18. After moving to Saskatchewan in 2005, I joined the Regina Masters swim club with my sister, where we loved to swim and compete together. Eventually, I made my way to Meota, where I now live with my husband and our two daughters.

These days, you can usually find me at the pool! I swim with the Masters program, and both of my children swim competitively with the Orcas. I’ve seen firsthand how much the club supports its swimmers, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this amazing team.  I have worked as an Educational Assistant since 2005 and truly love working with children.  There’s nothing quite like the pride of helping a young person learn a new skill and seeing their confidence grow in a fun team environment. I am looking forward to supporting our swimmers both in and out of the pool.

I look forward to a fun and rewarding season with the Orcas. Let’s make a splash together! Go O-R-C-A-S!
